Weather and Climate Policy
I am quite interested in the policy aspects of the
discipline. Among my activities, I am working to improve
U.S. numerical weather prediction, serving on a number of NOAA
advisory committees and testifying in Congress on the
subject. I have written a paper in the Bulletin of the
American Meteorological Society on the subject (The
Uncoordinated Giant) and have organized a successful effort to
secure a weather radar for the Washington Coast.
I have also been active in blogging about and giving
public talks about policy issues regarding climate change,
supporting a revenue-neutral carbon tax and speaking out against
hype and exaggeration in the media and by some politicians.
